Big things are happening in the luxury and performance segment of the automotive industry these days. It's almost like an arms race to see which companies can build their cars bigger, better, faster, and more powerful. After several companies like Mercedes, Audi, BMW and even Maserati announced that they would soon be introducing entry-level four-door sedans to their lineups, it is only natural for Jaguar to jump in the game.
Company officials announced at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show that that is exactly what is going to happen. It was said that a new mid-sized sedan would be introduced to the production line of new Jaguar models by 2015. This new vehicle should fit snugly beneath the Jaguar XF in terms of price, and it will hopefully compete directly with the BMW 3 Series.
This new proposed model is currently being referred to as the Jaguar XS, but there is not news as to whether or not the name will stick.
Jaguar Land Rover Director of Strategy, Adrian Hallmark, commented, "It will look and drive like a Jaguar, be filled with the highest technology that anyone has ever brought to that segment, and have the most efficient engines and the most refined feel in its class. Not almost as good as, but better than the best in the world."1
