In all the fuss about the release of the new 2014 Jaguar F-TYPE, it seems that a few neat bits of technology might not have gotten the recognition they deserved. Today we want to tell you about the special pyrotechnic system that comes standard in all new F-TYPE models that keeps pedestrians safe in the event you hit them.

In a large amount of fatal crashes when a car hits a pedestrian, the injuries are not incurred during the initial impact, but when the person hits the hood of the car. With an large hunk of metal (the engine) resting directly below the thin metal shield (the hood), it is easy to see how somebody could get hurt as they are thrown into a crumpled hood and dense engine block.

That is where this new system comes into play. This technology uses special sensors in the front bumper of the car. When the vehicle recognizes that it has hit a person, two small airbags instantly inflate under the hood in order to provide a softer surface for the person to land on.

To protect the F-TYPE's low profile image, this system is unseen until the initial moment of impact. The hood only rises .79 inches from its usual resting spot but that should be enough to reduce damage.

Of course now that you know about this technology, you do not have our blessing to hit pedestrians walking around downtown Houston. Of course you do have our blessing to stop by our showroom located at 7025 Old Katy Road Houston, TX 77024 and learn everything there is to know about the new F-TYPE or any other vehicle in our inventory of new and used Jaguar models. Hope to see you soon.
